WEST BROADWAY NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
MEETING MINUTES
May 12, 2010
The meeting was opened by passing out surveys to be delivered to our new Police
Captain Richard Evans at Station 6. It is important to him to now the neighbors
perception of safety in the neighborhood and what issues are most important
to them. Surveys can be mailed in to the address listed on them.
Next was our monthly report from Community Service Officer John
loan from Station 6 BPD. He reported a break-in at one of the newer large residential
buildings in the neighborhood. A snow blower, 4 bikes and a 60" flat-screen
TV were removed from the premise. It appears the individuals involved may have
entered through the garage doors before they were closed automatically. The
management of the building have multiple video cameras and have supplied the
police with the video. Residents were reminded to be vigilant about safety to
watch doors close behind them, and report all suspicious persons to the Boston
PD 617-343-4911 from your cell phone.
The management at 50 West Broadway announced the availability
of garage parking spaces to rent for $250 per month. E-mail 50WB@corcoranmgmt.com
for more information.
David Warner of Warner Larsen Landscape Architects on West Broadway
has generously signed on pro-bono to design our newest garden on The Jimmy Kelley
Bridge. He presented the conceptional design for "Denise's Garden"
on the Kelly Bridge. The theme is "Reflections
in Pink" which was her favorite color. The pathway and sitting
area will be in the shape of a flower with gravel and other stones adding color
so even in the winter it will be a welcoming location. Recycled glass and a
center fountain or statute will also be included in the design with small stone
seats inside the petals of the flower. Boxwood will outline the shape of the
petals with Knockout pink roses and a cherry tree against the bridge. The flowers
will all be in shaded of pink and purple. The plan also includes more trees
on Foundry St. to block some of the view of the train yards. We are also working
with Frank O'brien in Boston Public Works to get a spotlight to shine in the
area.
The next presentation was on the planned development of 11
West Broadway , The Quiet Man parcel on W.Broadway at Dorchester Ave. This
parcel is currently zoned for an 8 story 85ft condominium complex with two floors
of underground parking. Ron Simons President of Bodwell Pines Corp. presented.
He is proposing a 6 story 65ft rental building with increased first floor retail
and restaurant ventilation in the building. He is proposing one story of underground
parking with 36 spots for fifty units. Construction could begin as early as
Fall 2010. Ron Simons is a developer and contractor who owns and manages rental
building in Boston and Newton. The development will not include any portion
of the MBTA station. The construction is thought to last 10-12 months. The exterior
building materials were not very specific. The developer, Mr Simon, agreed to
come back to a WBNA meeting before the final presentation of the development
to the BRA with more specific building materials and drawings. The proposal
was mostly well received.
