Party on Earth" at 8pm.

- Bill requested all members to please help the South Boston NDC by filling
out the Needs survey online : http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22ABX7G49M7
- Peter Golemme from the South Boston Arts Association was introduced and
told us about a Fund Raiser Sock Hop on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 6:30
till 10:30 at the Lithuanian Club at the corner of West Broadway ant E Street.
The admission is $10 to assist the Arts Association.
- Next up was our own Boston Police Community Service Officer Rich Doherty
for Area D6. As usual there were no significant crime updates for our neighborhood.
It appears that homelessness and panhandling are the major issues, along with
traffic issues on Dorchester Ave and West Broadway, especially as they effect
pedestrian crossing the streets. Police requested people to call the local
Boston Police at 617-343-4911from your cell phone which connects directly
with the Boston Police instead of the State Police. They also request us to
take a quick ID of people if we are reporting such as if a hat what type and
color, dungarees, shirt color and facial hair. They have been working with
the local metal collector on A St. regarding the stealing of copper downspouts.
- The next presentation for Foodies Grocery Store @ 230 West Broadway. Foodies
has purchased the old American Nut and Chocolate location on the corner of
C and West Broadway. They will be opening a new store at that location in
the spring of 2011. Even though the current Zoning allows for the use, the
existing condition of the building and additional permits from the City require
lots of interior construction which prohibits opening sooner. The foot print
of the interior layout is about the same as the Foodies in the South End.
The hours of operation will probably be the same as the South End also 8 a.m.
till 9 p.m. The presentation included a very attractive storefront with plantings,
10 parking spaces, and tastefull signage. There was overall support for the
Foodies presentation with support for opening sooner rather then later.
