The meeting opened with Senator Jack Hart paying us a surprise visit to thank
us for our hard work in the neighborhood. He discussed the status and his positions
on Slainte and the Station Six development. The City of Boston Department of
Neighborhood Development will be coming back to the neighborhood in January
for an update on the Station Six development and we will have a chance to get
out the support for the Neighborhood Arts Center. They dont have a final
plan for the Center yet but the Senator is working with them on the plan and
a stimulus opportunity.
Our second guests were Meg and Matt Allan who want to open a wine store at
48 West Broadway which is part of the new development at 50 West Broadway. They
are South Boston residents. Their plan for the store would be to dedicate it
to wine, high end cordials and a small sampling of special beers.
The space is approximately 1700 Sq. ft. with a back office and staircase. They
are including a special build-out to allow wine tastings. They have the idea
of pairing with foods by working with other local South Boston purveyors to
develop tastings. These may include dessert wine and sweets from Sweet Tooth
or wines and appetizers with Barbara Lynch.
The wines will be in the $15 to $30 price range and the hours will be from 1
to 9:30 or 10:00 p.m. They are currently negotiating the lease which must be
received before they can obtain a liquor license.
The opening they are targeting is February or March of 2010
The third action at the meeting was the election of the officers for 2010. The officers were duly elected by the members present.
