West Broadway Neighborhood Association
September 9, 2009
The September meeting opened with a safety update from Sgt. Doherty from Station
6.
There was a B&E on a vehicle on Foundry St., nothing was taken but the vehicle
was damaged.
The Police are working with other City Agencies on the homeless locations in
our neighborhood.
It appears there was another incident at Slainte at 28 West Broadway on Sunday
night
The police are watching the place closely and are talking to the Licensing Board.
We asked to be made aware of any hearing on the license. It apprearrs there
have been many unsanitary items found on Foundry St. on Monday mornings after
the Latin Nights at Slainte.
The City made a presentation on the South Bay Harbor Trail at the meeting.
Bill conroy of the Transportation gave a project overview and David Giangrande
of Design Consultants, Inc of Somerville went over the 25% Design Submissions
to the Massachusetts Highway Department and the Streetscape and Wayfinding markers.
The South Bay Harbor Trail (SBHT) is a 3.5 mile long pedestrian friendly bike
trail that will connect Roxbury, the South End, Chinatown, Fort Point Channel
and South Boston to each other and to Boston Harbor and the Harbor Islands National
Park.
The trail will provide vital access to new jobs and economic opportunities at
Crosstown, Bio-Square, The Boston Convention and Exhibition Center and the Seaport
District.
The SBHT will eventually link to the Emerald Necklace, the Southwest Corridor
and Charles River bike ways. Along Frontage Road the bikeway and pedestrians
will be on separate paths. The bikepath currently will cross Broadway Bridge
and turn down Greenbaum Street onto Foundary St. then along to the Harborwalk
along Fort Point Channel. Broadway Bridge will have bikepaths on both sides.
Maintenance will be addressed by agreements between the Public and Private owners
of the property the bikeway crosses.
There is more thought and planning needed for both bike racks, bike rental and
locations for the buoy signage which was placed on the Harborwalk during the
summer.
